Here are three lessons we can learn from a sunrise.
1. Newness
Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. - Lamentations 3:22-23
The first glimpse of the sun in the morning is a sign it is a new day. It's a fresh start filled with new opportunities and experiences. In Christ, we have life, and not only life but new life, free from the bondage of sin. While we still sin, if we are saved and we repent of our sin, we are cleansed and have a new start again. God doesn't keep a record of our wrongs but blots out our transgressions and gives us a clean slate. Use each day as a new start, with a positive mindset focused on God and His daily tasks He has prepared for you. Take time to reflect and treasure the lesson(s) He is teaching you and the blessings you are receiving. Be grateful, put a smile on your face and walk in the newness of life God has given you!
2. Hope
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!” - Lamentations 3:24
A sunrise gives us hope in the new day. It is a reminder that the tears and sorrows we felt in the night are given to comfort and joy in the morning. As the sun rises in the sky, we can remember that Jesus is our Morning Star and we can place our hope in Him. A hope for His return soon, for His eternal reign, to see our loved ones again, to have all our sorrow, pain, and tears removed forever, for our new body, a hope for paradise and eternity with our Lord. There is no hope apart from Jesus Christ, God's Son.
3. Refreshing
The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. - Psalm 19:7-9, NIV
With each sunrise comes a refreshing morning. The night that brings sadness, sleeplessness, turmoil, tears, and fears is faded out and replaced with the morning sun's light, which brings its refreshing rays to us. Even as adults we get scared by shadows or objects that appear much different than they really are. The darkness hides and manipulates things obstructing our vision to the truth. It leads to fear, anxiety, stress, and sometimes nightmares. But the darkness of the night does not last, in the morning we are able to see clearly and our mind does not run wild with scary imaginations. Our fears and anxieties are proven silly once we realize what the object really was and our mind is clear to see reality. The same is with life, the darkness of sin hides our eyes from the truth of God's Word. The lies that the devil plants in our minds are watered by our own deceitful hearts and grow into weeds of sin that distort our spirit. But when we open our Bible to God's Word the light of His word shines the truth and we realize the grave need for our Savior and the deceptiveness of our own wicked thoughts and desires. Just as the morning sun brings a refreshing atmosphere, God refreshes our souls when we spend time in His Word. We cannot be refreshed without coming into the presence of God.
