Let's call it for what it is, hate. Racism is hate, plain and simple. God tells us, "For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7b). God tells us that as humans, we automatically look and judge base on appearance because that is what we see. Whereas the Lord looks and judges by the heart because He sees and knows all, even the deepest secrets we try to hide. The moment we hate another person, the Bible says we are a murderer, "Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him." (1 John 3:15). We all have sinned, we all have made judgments about others, that is being a human in a sinful world with a sinful heart. "For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," (Romans 3:22b). The problem is not the color of a person, it is not the ability of a person, the problem is the heart!
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked - Jeremiah 17:9a
What then? Are we better than they? Not at all. For we have previously charged both Jews and Greeks that they are all under sin. As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one; there is none who understands; there is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside; they have together become unprofitable; there is none who does good, no, not one.” “Their throat is an open tomb; with their tongues they have practiced deceit”; “The poison of asps is under their lips”; “Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.” “Their feet are swift to shed blood; destruction and misery are in their ways; and the way of peace they have not known.” “There is no fear of God before their eyes.” - Romans 3:9-18
We are so easy to shout racism at any moment even when it may not be true hatred. We tell others what they can't say because it's "racist" against us, while we ourselves say those words. The word racist/racism has lost its true meaning. Racism is hatred of another person based on their "color" and the true root of racism is hatred for another person. When we start dividing people based on the color of the skin, it is like dividing lions based on eye color and saying they are a different species, absurd. We are all one race, human, we are all designed and created by one God. When we start stating that only certain people matter or promoting a group that pushes one culture over another, then we are no better than Hitler who classified people based on their design. He stated that blonde hair and blue-eyed people's lives matter more than others, especially more than Jews, and made it his life mission to murder millions of Jews and people who did not fit his ideal appearance and believes. Every culture has dealt with hate-filled attacks, especially the Jews/Israelites who have had to face attempts of annihilation throughout their history. Instead of having a pity-party, making excuses for poor behavior, or vengefully targeting others, they praised God for saving them, got back on their feet, and continue to live life. Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:43-45, "You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust."
Murder Begins in the Heart
“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire. - Matthew 5:21-22
It does not matter what your outward appearance is, that is how you were made and you had no choice in the matter. It does not matter if you have pale, medium, or dark skin, again that is how you were created. Yes, some people alter their God-given appearance, but it does not change the fact that the outward appearance is for decoration, like paint on a vase, it does not have anything to do with our character, personality, believes, values, skills, or intelligence. The reason we have different shades of skin color is due to where we live in the world to fit with the environment and sun conditions. Segregating people based on skin color is like saying "Blue Eyes Matter", why just blue? The color of the eyes has nothing to do with who we are as a person. It is only causing a divide when we should be coming together as one race praising God that we are all made in His image but beautifully unique, no two alike.
So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city. Therefore its name is called Babel, because there theLordconfused the language of all the earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth. - Genesis 11:8-9
There are good people in every culture and bad people in every culture, the color of our skin has absolutely nothing to do with if we are a good or bad person. We all are sinful and imperfect, we all have made mistakes. In God's eyes, all sin is equal, because ALL sin does the same thing, separates us from Him. Instead of judging others or shaming others, we should be looking in the mirror first and seeing our own flaws and deceitful hearts. Instead of attacking when we are hurt or causing chaos when we misunderstand, we should get ourselves clean and remove the bolder in our own eyes.
And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. - Matthew 7:3-5
Instead of having special holidays for a specific group of people and shaming another group of people, if we truly want equality for all, then we need to practice what we preach and celebrate all people equally. If one group has a month set apart for them, why isn't every other group having their own months? You can't claim equality when you are pushing your group above all others and berating another group for your own prejudices, hypocrisy. Honestly, no group should have their own month or holiday, we are humans together, we should get the focus off ourselves and look to our Maker. Instead of constantly pushing how great we are, how much attention we "deserve", and how much we are "owed", we need to realize how sinful we are and how much mercy God has bestowed! O how far we have drifted from reality and truth! May God forgive us of our foolishness, cleanse us from our sins, restore us from our ruin, and heal us from the hell we have created on earth!
These six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren. - Proverbs 6:16-19
I am waiting for the day when we realize that ALL lives matter. When will we realize that we are not colors but one race, human! Instead of fighting against each other or blaming others, why can't we face the truth that we are all in this world together, one race created by one God. Our character or who we truly are, our actions, thoughts, words, and desires all come from within, there is no difference in color on the inside where our soul is. It is not a matter of color at all, it is a matter of the heart!
And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth - Acts 17:26a
For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” - Romans 10:12-13
For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man.” - Mark 7:21-23
Very well said! If people would just realize the devil wants to divide, and will do it in many ways. If we would examine ourselves as you stated and keep our eyes on Jesus, this world would look so different.
Kudos to you, Carina, for speaking/writing on this!!
