Think on These Things

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you. - Philippians 4:6-9

With all of the chaos going on in this world and unimaginable evils that we are seeing daily, it is easy to get discouraged, upset, depressed, and dishearted about the condition of this world. It is easy to get fearful and angry, but Christians are called to leave the discord and injustice in God's hands to deal with. We are not to take justice into our own hands, be filled with anger, or live in a state of fear and depression. Instead, we are to pray at all times in joy and sorrow, in confidence and in uncertainty. We are to guard our hearts and minds against evil and sin and think on only godly things, keeping our eyes and head looking upward towards Jesus.

We are to be informed about the truth going on in this world, but are not to let the world sway or control our emotions or mind. Let the Holy Spirit guide you and help you be an overcomer and master over your feelings and emotions.

Take a look at what we are to think about and meditate on. Whatever is:

  1. True

  2. Noble

  3. Just

  4. Pure

  5. Lovely

  6. Of Good Report

  7. Has Virtue

  8. Anything Praiseworthy

The Bible says if we think about these things and keep them in our hearts and minds then the peace of God will be with us. When we train our minds to think about Jesus and His character, to think about our blessings, then the things that upset, discourage, depress, create fear, panic, heartache, and sorrow will dimension. Darkness is overcome by light, therefore keep light in your heart and mind to keep the shadows out!

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” - John 8:12
And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. - John 1:5

God IS in control of ALL things! Nothing happens without God allowing it and all things happen for a reason. We may not comprehend God's plan or understand why He allows certain things to happen, but that is not our role or responsibility. We are to live trusting, obeying, and loving God, loving, sharing the Word, and helping others, and leave the rest to Him. Don't put all your trust in humans, we lie, we don't know everything, and we are sinners. Put your full trust in God, our Creator who is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent!
